Arnel Pineda: Love and Rock n’ Roll is a major solo concert, the first wherein the artist will showcase his songwriting prowess. While touring the globe with Journey, he penned original tracks which will be part of his upcoming solo album. He will showcase his original compositions and sing covers of Valentine favourites. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Arnel Pineda Foundation, Inc. Rock band Philia shares the stage as the night’s special guest.

Artist Profile

One of the more prominent Filipino musicians to have ever graced the rock industry, Arnel Pineda is the frontman of the legendary band, Journey. Prior to joining the famed American rock outfit, he was part of Pinoy bands Ammo and Zoo. He was also a cover musician, having played in various music bars across Manila, Hong Kong and Singapore. He was discovered by Journey lead guitarist and founding member Neal Schon. Pineda officially joined the band on December 5, 2007 and formally performed his first show during Journey’s tour in Chile in 2008.

Personal Life

Arnel Pineda was born on September 5, 1967 in Sampaloc, Manila. After his mother’s illness and eventual death put the family in a dire financial situation, Pineda volunteered to live independently, taking on odd jobs to provide for himself at the age of 14. At 15, he became the lead singer of the band, Ijos. In 1986, along with some members of Ijos, he formed Ammo and the band went on to win the Rock Wars contest. In 1988, Ammo won the Philippine leg of the Yamaha World Band Explosion and competed in Hong Kong for the finals.  In 1990, Pineda and other Ammo members formed another band called Intensity Five which came first runner-up at the Yamaha World Band Explosion, with Pineda winning Best Vocalist. Pineda also fronted the bands New Age, 9mm, Most W@nted, and Zoo. He gained international recognition after being chosen as Journey’s vocalist in 2007.

Life with Journey

Being one of the faces of the esteemed rock band Journey, Pineda has appeared in various TV shows and graced the covers of several magazines all over the globe. Some of his television guestings include the Ellen De Generes Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, CBS Sunday Morning, CBS: The Early Show, NBC Today Show, CNN and BBC, among many others. He has also written articles for various international magazines such as Rolling Stone.

Venues/Festivals played

Pineda is a well-traveled musician, having played with Journey in almost every famed arena and venue worldwide such as the Hollywood Bowl, Tokyo Budokan and Wembley Arena. He was also at the spotlight of several music festivals that includes the Download Festival and Graspop Metal Meeting. Each time Pineda performs onstage, an average crowd between 10,000 to 50,000 can be seen gathering at these events, a proof of his immense popularity in recognition of his vocal prowess.

Arnel and Journey’s collaboration with other music artists

Adding more to their star power as a rock band, Pineda and Journey have successfully teamed up with other popular musicians and outfits in music tours worldwide, which include the likes of Heart, Foreigner, Steve Miller Band, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Tower of Power, Santana, Cheap Trick, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Rascal Flatts, Pat Benatar (featuring Neil Giraldo), Loverboy, Thunder, Survivor, Nightranger and Styx.

Albums and Documentary Film Released

Pineda has several albums released with Journey. These are 2008’s Revelation album and Journey Live in Las Vegas DVD, 2009’s Journey Live in Manila and 2011’s Eclipse album. He also had a documentary film with the band which is entitled Everyman’s Journey that was released in 2013.

Solo Project (2015)

Recognizing his need to grow as an individual artist, Arnel Pineda released his first-ever EP (extended play) CD. Entitled the Arnel Pineda Experiment or AP.ex, the CD contains 6 tracks, all  original creations from Pineda himself.

Off-Tour Activities

When he’s not busy making rounds around the globe with Journey, Pineda keeps himself busy with his own foundation named after himself. He is also a regular guest at local television show ASAP of ABS-CBN network and also does corporate and private music shows as well.
