This Filipino-Made Watch is Truly World-Class

When it comes to watches, it’s important to invest in quality. Since quality watches are usually quite expensive, a lot of people wait for a significant milestone to reward themselves or others with a good watch. But one Filipino brand wants to change that mindset: Argos.

What are Argos Watches?

is a purely Filipino brand created by friends Ivan Jeff Soberano and Gregory Yu, watch aficionados who deepened their interest in the accessories during the pandemic. Since these two men love and collect watches, it makes sense that they eventually created their own. They didn’t just do it to start a business, either. They also aim to showcase Filipino workmanship around the country and, hopefully soon, around the world. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned: Argos watches are truly world-class.

With other friends – Nikki Columna, Stephen Cruz, and Trish Delacruz – the Filipino watch brand was born. Argos watches hold three distinct characteristics that everyone should look for in a watch: durability, reliability, and versatility. What’s more, they look great, feel comfortable, and are affordable enough to be given as gifts on special occasions and to invest in so you have a timepiece on your wrist that will last a long time. In fact, it’s the perfect gift to give this holiday season.

More than being a classic timepiece that goes with any outfit, Argos watches tell a beautiful story about people from humble beginnings who try to make their own way in the world. The brand is actually named after Homer’s loyal and faithful dog in The Odyssey. Like the character, an Argos watch promises to be as reliable a companion to you as you go through trials and successes in your life.

Add to that the fact that Argos watches are made by Filipino craftsmen, artisans, and watchmakers; and you have a proudly Filipino product in your hands. Ivan points out that Filipino matchmakers are very skilled but just don’t get the attention they deserve.

“We believe that they should be given more in terms of their image and a sustainable livelihood,” Ivan explains. “For this purpose, we stand by our craftsmen as our partners in this undertaking.” I firmly believe that Argos is truly at par with other international brands out there. I actually compared it to a well-known luxury watch brand when I first set eyes on it. And coming from a family of watch aficionados, I can confidently say I know what I’m talking about.

The Argos Odyssey

Argos’ flagship model is the Odyssey, the name of which I believe I no longer have to explain. It was inspired by each team member’s individual tastes and preferences and uses a Japanese NH35 mechanical movement with a 41-hour power reserve so you won’t have to worry about replacing its battery every few years. To power it up, all you have to do is shake it. The NH35 also has a hacking and hand-winding feature, is protected by a Diashock shock-protection system, and provides a date function.

For durability, the watch uses a top-grade 316L stainless steel case, and its brushed finishes will help the watch to age better as it can hide the tiny scratches and bumps watches tend to experience with everyday wear. The face is also protected by a sapphire crystal, a benchmark in watch crystal protection. To top it all off, the Odyssey comes with a quality stainless steel bracelet.

I am so excited for more people to discover Argos as a brand and see what Filipino watch craftsmen are truly capable of. Available in blue and cream watch faces, the Odyssey is limited to 100 pieces each so make sure to get yours soon!
