Argentum: The UP Manila Chorale Celebrates 25 Years of Music

Twenty-five years is not a small thing, especially not for a performing arts group like the UP Manila Chorale. For 25 years, the UP Manila Chorale, or the UPMC, has been enchanting the hearts of audiences both local and international with their repertoire of songs ranging from classical choral pieces to pop songs infused with the charm of vocal harmony.

As a culmination of these silvered years of musical harmony and camaraderie, the UPMC and the Cultural Center of the PhilippinespresentsArgentum: The UP Manila Chorale’s 25th Anniversary Concert. This will be held on May 11, Thursday, 7 – 9 pm at the TanghalangNicanorAbelardo (CCP Main Theater), CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.

Featured in the repertoire are the world premieres of “Gloria” by Nilo Alcala and “Avinu (Our Father)” by EudenicePalaruan, both homegrown Filipino composers. Alongside these are classical pieces by renowned international composers and beloved Filipino OPM tunes with a choral twist, showcasing the group’s versatility in musical performance honed over the past 25 years.

The concert will mark the beginning of Argentum, the group’s 25th-anniversary yearlong celebration with a series of concerts, health promotions, exhibits, festivals, and tours to promote harmony through music and innovation.

The UP Manila Chorale is the multi-awarded official performing group for choral music of the University of the Philippines Manila. In 2015, the UPMC embarked on its 8th European Tour and brought home three awards from two international competitions in Spain. In 2016, the UPMC won the Ani ng Dangal Award for Music awarded by the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA). For their 25th anniversary, they aim to uphold the musical excellence set by their founders, to continue influencing the choral music scene, and to instill in their members the core values of humility, discipline, nationalism, and excellence in their mission to be “the voice of UP Manila to the world.”
