ENTERTAINMENT: 10 Things we know so far about Riverdale’s Second Season

With Season 1 having wrapped up just a few weeks ago, Riverdale fans will temporarily miss tuning in to Netflix for a new episode of the soap based on the Archie comics. With Season 2 currently in the works, here’s what we know (and can’t wait to see!!!)

WARNING: Spoilers of the show ahead!

Second season starts filming on June 22 (Thursday) and is set to finish production on April 1 next year!

Yes, we’re itching to find out more on Clifford Blossom’s suicide (?), why he killed his son Jason, what happens to Joaquin DeSantos (and Joavin?), Jughead Jones joining the Serpents (does this the mean the end for Bughead?), what happens to Fred Andrews after being gunned at Pop’s (is he going to survive?), awaiting Polly Cooper’s birth, the identity of the anonymous Cooper brother and many other unanswered questions season 1 failed to give. We’ll be hanging by a thread for a while!

Season 2’s premiere episode title is revealed

Creator and writer Robert Aguirre – Sacasa took it to his Twitter account how “Season Two of Riverdale is officially underway” – thus, revealing the title of the first episode of the upcoming season, “A Kiss Before Dying”. Could the title reflect on the last scene of season 1’s finale?

Charles Melton will replace Ross Butler as ‘Reggie’

With Butler fully committing to ’13 Reasons Why’, another Netflix Original series set to renew for a second season, the Riverdale producers set out on a search for a new Reggie and it has been reported that Charles Melton will be taking Butler’s place.

Melton has portrayed roles in American Horror Story: Hotel (as Mr. Wu) and Glee (where he played a model)”.

Author’s edit: It has also been announced that we’ll see more ‘FP’ in the show as well since Skeet Ulrich has been promoted to a season regular as well!

A ‘blossoming’ romance for Cheryl and Josie, respectively

After accusing Cheryl of twincest in the first season and Josie, well, very much dedicated to music, we’re bound to see a much more lovable side of these two characters come season 2. According to ENews.com, Madeleine Petsch, who plays Cheryl, she spills that “there’s going to be a little bit of an unexpected love interest for Cheryl, finally.”

Petsch also says that “[Cheryl] went through so much in season one and she’s so broken down that I think season two…she’s deciding she’s done, and she’s going to be colder and meaner than ever,

There’s going to be a possible love interest between Josie and Reggie,” Ashleigh Murray, who plays Josie, reveals.

Murray has met Melton, who’ll be playing Reggie.

“I have met him, and he’s great. He’s got a really great sense of moments and he’s not afraid to take risks and go there. He takes direction really well. He’s different from Ross because they’re not the same person, but he’s gonna be good.”

Ooooh, this is going to be interesting!

‘Riverdale’ will have a new day and timeslot for Season 2

According to ENews, “Hit drama Riverdale will take over the Wednesday at 8 p.m. timeslot.” That would mean that a new episode of Riverdale will be available on Thursday Manila time, a day earlier than the usual. So yes, Happy Thursday it is!

A “war” will be raging.

Remember in the last episode, when #Bughead’s intimate moment was interrupted by the Southside Serpents, giving Jughead a chance to be a part of the wolf pack?  That moment when Betty told Jughead that she doesn’t want to “let a civil war rip them apart”, unfortunately, it’s going to happen. Robert Aguirre – Sacasa has reported to TVLine that “the war will occur between the north side of Riverdale and the south side.” Yes, it’s going down for reaaaaal.

We’re finally meeting Hiram Lodge

Hiram Lodge has been causing havoc in Riverdale despite his absence, so we’ll get to know more about him this season 2. It has been reported that Mark Consuelos will be playing him. Similar to the comics, the father of Riverdale’s feisty new girl doesn’t approve of the #Varchie romance, but we’ll find out in the show if he’s going to change his mind! Aguirre-Sacasa approves, however, that “Hiram and Hermione will be a “power couple” in season two.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch (and other supernatural creatures) might appear in the second season

Aguirre-Sacasa reported to Comicbook.com that the show purposely left out Sabrina in the first season because “it’s such a big idea to introduce the supernatural into a natural world”. However, in the second season, supernatural elements will still be evident (with the likes of Zombie/Ghost Jason Blossom) and with that, it “might open a door for Sabrina.

Maturity and personal growth for Archie

With the tragic events that unfolded one after the other (that last scene of episode 13 though!!!!), Aguirre-Sacasa reported to TV Guide that we will see “a different Archie in Season 2“.

‘He’s no longer the kid who has to choose between football and music, Valerie or Veronica and all of this stuff. This is a guy who is going to be on a quest for revenge and hopefully towards heroism.’

We will definitely see maturity and growth for our favorite redhead, and we can’t wait for that.
