Baguio is one of the places broken hearts go to find solace. It’s an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Yet this past few years, the city saw worsening traffic conditions and pollution problems. On this recent trip, I called my Baguio-based friend, Ellen, to ask for places away from the city. Her top suggestion was Arca’s Yard.
The place is not that hard to find. It’s located on a tranquil corner of Ambuklao Road, about a fifteen-minute drive from the city proper. It used to be one of the houses of the family of Ninja Sabado, so there’s this very homey feel starting from the outside.
The quaint place is, by itself, a showcase of the Igorot Culture.
And the view was spectacular.
We chose a small table on the balcony. Imagine sipping your hot coffee with this view while the cold breeze kisses your face. It’s a kind of beautiful moment that makes you think.
I am not really fond of camote (sweet potato), but this camote pie combined with crumbs and topped with cream was fantastic!
The bread alone was delicious, but coupled with this special dip, it was even more amazing!
Ellen ordered Tarragon tea. I’m not a tea person, but she convinced me to taste it. I was expecting a dull, watery taste, but was surprised since it was so dense, pungent, and minty. I must admit that it’s actually quite good.
The prices were very reasonable. The only thing with Arca’s is it doesn’t offer much choices on its menu. But if you want a full meal, probably for a romantic date, you need to make a reservation at least 2 days prior.
Arca’s also offers a secluded spot upstairs with a mini library.
And, before leaving this nice place, be sure to pen down your thoughts.
