Angkas Rally

After the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) decided to lower the number of motorcycle taxi service bikers of Angkas, the ridesharing platform encouraged drivers and supporters to join a demonstration rally at the EDSA Kalayaan Shrine.

According to Angkas representatives,  around 20,000 bikers and supporters attended the rally at White Plains and EDSA.

They protested the LTFRB’s decision to lower the number of riders from 27,000 to 10,000 bikers.

In a statement released by Angkas on Twitter, “Your everyday heroes in traffic will enter this Christmas season not knowing whether they will have money to feed their families next year. Some of you may have noticed na ang hirap nang mag-book in the last few weeks. Marami kasi talaga ang nag-a-Angkas, pero gusto man naming dagdagan ang bikers para higit kayong mapaglingkuran, hindi kami pinayagan ng LTFRB.” [“Some of you may have noticed that it’s becoming more difficult to book in the last few weeks. There are a lot of riders and as much as we want to increase the number of riders to serve you better, we are not allowed by the LTFRB.”]

They added, “That’s a compromise to the quality of service you can expect, and A DIRECT BLOW TO OVER 17,000 FILIPINO FAMILIES.”

The LTFRB’s decision came after a technical working group was launched to set up a pilot run with Angkas and two new operators. Under this experiment, 39,000 registered bikers will be divided among the three operators. Each will get 10,000 bikers in Metro Manila and 3,000 each for Metro Cebu. The Extended Pilot Implementation will run from December 23 2019 up to March 23, 2020.
