Archaeologists have unearthed a perfectly preserved Ancient Roman mosaic floor. The floor is dated back to the 3rd Century AD.

The remains of the ancient villa were discovered back in 1922 in an area above the town of Negrar di Valpolicella, but the site was abandoned shortly after. Fortunately, a team from the Superintendent of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Verona revisited the site and continued digging last summer.

On Facebook, authorities of Negrar di Valpolicella posted photos of the unearthed site. They wrote (rough translation), “After countless decades of failed attempts, part of the floor and foundations of the Roman villa located north of Verona, discovered by scholars a century ago, has finally been brought to light.”
Authorities of Negrar di Valpolicella also said that the municipality will provide necessary collaboration on the archaeological site. They are also working on making the site more accessible to the public.
