One of my fondest memories last year was a short visit to one of the Philippine’s most popular vacation destinations: Bohol. I’ve previously been to Bohol when I was younger so I pretty much had an idea of what to expect. This recent trip, however, cast my childhood vacation destination in a new light, and I suddenly found myself wide-eyed with wonder at the raw beauty and charm that I never knew Bohol island possessed.

A lot of this renewed appreciation for Bohol has to do with where we stayed. Much has changed on the island since my last visit, more apparent than most is the abundance of luxury resorts and beach-side bars that have taken advantage of Alona Beach’s powdery-white sands. The sunsets, however, are as stunning as I remember them to be.

So! Where did we stay? A darling hideaway atop a limestone cliff which, I kid you not, gives you the BEST view of the sunset in all of Alona Beach. Aptly named Amorita, which loosely translates to “My Little Darling,” this little slice of luxury in Panglao is indeed a darling of a place to stay. I don’t think I’ll ever look at Bohol the same way after such a relaxing experience here!

Amorita is a luxe escape perched at the edge of Alona Beach’s limestone cliffs, accessible from the main road and from the beach itself, yet conveniently tucked away from Alona’s bustling nightlife scene. It’s the perfect place to retire after a busy day of sight-seeing and island hopping around the island, and also, as I’ve mentioned, THE BEST SPOT to view both the sunrise AND sunset in Alona. Breakfasts by the pool were the best. I am a huge fan of scenic breakfasts, and Amorita’s Saffron Restaurant did not disappoint the slightest bit. Their outdoor dining space opens up to sweeping views of their infinity pools and the sea and sky which lay beyond. We had some of the most memorable and utterly relaxed breakfasts here, tended to by Amorita’s kind staff and spoiled with their sumptuous breakfast fare.

Hearty breakfasts were succeeded by full days of lounging under the sun at either of their two infinity pools, each with a killer view of the sea and beach below. Because, honestly, what else would you do at such a gorgeous place as this? Drink it all in, I say!

What I especially loved about our stay at Amorita, apart from its gorgeous landscaping, is its heartwarming service. Every night upon returning to our hotel room, we were greeted by a box of sweets and little love notes wishing us a lovely evening. Room service was prompt and accommodating, and everyone greeted us with a smile! Its these little details that made our stay all the more enjoyable.
