Alta by Relik: High Quality Filipino-Spanish Fusion in San Juan

Photos by: Adi Cabanero and JP Sium

Judging by the history of the Philippines, it’s no wonder why most Filipinos have acquired a colonial mentality; we have been colonized for more than three centuries, after all. It’s not all bad, though, as we’re learning to“love local”, as they say.

Still, traditions, language, religion, and, personally (don’t quote me on this), the most vital of them all, food. Paella, Embutido, Leche Flan, and—yes—even Lechon. We have inherited recipes and infused them into our own cuisine; creating a Filipino-Spanish Fusion that complements as well as peanut butter and jelly. If you’re on the lookout for one of the (if not the) best Filipino-Spanish restaurants in the Metro, allow me to share Alta by Relik with you.

Alta by Relik 3

Situated at Santolan Town Plaza, San Juan City, Alta by Relik made a name for itself among the people in the area with its charming appeal and mouth-watering dishes. Alta is a Spanish word that means high in English and that’s exactly the standard they want to uphold. After visiting the establishment, I can confidently say that they are doing a good job at it with their attentive service and superb creations.

Alta specializes in comfort food, catering mostly to the number of families and barkadas living in the neighborhood. They want to help those groups still experience home-cooked, tender meals with the Spanish twist that they offer when they go out to eat.

One such dish is the Chorizig, irresistible sisig elevated with Spanish Chorizo to create an even more appetizing dish.

Alta by Relik 4Crispy Bagnet Kare-Kare – Php475

Their Crispy Bagnet Kare-Kare should not be missed, either, as its sauce is like no other. They make use of a special sauce to whip up a distinct specialty. It also helps that they import their bagnet right from Ilocos, where you can find the best bagnet in the Philippines.

Alta by Relik 2Slow-Roasted Beef Belly – Php425

Alta by Relik also takes pride in their Slow-Roasted Beef Belly. Just imagine how soft it is with its scrumptious meat cut roasted to perfection and drenched in homemade pepper gravy. It’s paired with uber-creamy mashed potatoes and some buttered vegetables.

Alta by Relik 8Longganisa with Salted Egg Cream Flatbread Pizza – Php325 / Bacon and Cheese Burger Php315

You can also order other crowd-favorites such as their Longganisa with Salted Egg Cream Flatbread Pizza (10/10!) and Bacon and Cheese Burger. Those two are perfect for sharing!

Alta by Relik 7Chili-Garlic Shrimp Pasta – Php358

If you’re craving for pasta, their Chili-Garlic Shrimp Pasta is very satisfying. This oil-based classic captures the freshness of seafood and the spiciness of all the herbs and just envelops your palate. Even though I dislike seafood, this one takes the cake!

Alta by Relik 6Milo Dinosaur Cheesecake – Php189

End your dining experience with dessert. They have a variety of milkshakes and drinks, but most people go back to Alta by Relik for their Milo Dinosaur Cheesecake—and all for the right reasons. It’s not overly sweet despite its name and it’s light yet indulgent with every bite without making you feel too full.
