Is Adriana Lima retiring from Victoria’s Secret?
The supermodel may have caused some tongues to wag after she made a certain declaration on her social media page: Adriana will no longer be “taking her clothes off for an empty cause”.
On her Instagram page, Adriana shared that she was recently contacted to star in a sexy music video, and that while she had done many videos of the same nature before, it was an encounter with a friend that changed everything:
Even though I have done many of this type, something had changed in me, when a friend approached me to share that she was unhappy with her body, then it made me think …everyday in my life, I wake up thinking, how do I look? Was I going to be accepted in my job? And in that moment I realized that majority of woman probably wake up every morning trying to fit in a stereotype that society/socialmedia/fashion etc imposed…. i thought that’s not a way of living and beyond that….
that’s not physically and mentally healthy, so I decided to make that change….. I will not take of my clothes anymore for a empty cause.
Adriana’s statement was widely praised for promoting body positivity and diversity, but fans took it to mean something else: does this mean she’s leaving Victoria’s Secret?
After all, the popular lingerie brand is known for featuring sexy women in risqué garments, yet has earned its fair share of criticism by not featuring different body types. It’s also been reported that Adriana has unfollowed all of the angels except for Behati Prinsloo, Lily Aldridge, Alessandra Ambrosio and Lais Ribeiro. She also unfollowed Ed Razek and the Victoria’s Secret page.
