Fifty Shades Of Grey Is Rated R-18 In The Philippines

fifty shades of grey

Fear not, Christian Grey fans! You can still see 50 Shades of Grey when it hits local theaters on February 11… you just have to be over 18 to do so.

That’s right, 50 Shades of Grey received an R-18 rating in the Philippines, given by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

What’s more, the super kinky movie, known for its depiction of bondage and S&M, will have blocks and blurs in their much-anticipated steamy sex scenes! But don’t just go storming into the MTRCB just yet, because it is not their fault!

According to local news reports, Columbia Pictures practiced some self-regulation by introducing these screen blocks and blurs into sensitive scenes, and that the MTRCB’s job is to merely classifiy, NOT censor.

There will also be a 10-second disclaimer at the start of every showing, stating:

This movie was classified as is and in its entirety with noticeable BLURS and SCREEN BLOCKS introduced by the film producer prior to its submission for review. The public is advised of some scenes of nudity, strong and/or sexual language, and sexual aberrational behavior with elements of bondage, dominance, sadism and masochism.

Oh well… better than no showing at all, we suppose! One thing’s for certain, this clearly isn’t your usual Valentines date movie.

What do you think about Fifty Shades of Grey receiving an R-18 rating? Will you be seeing this movie?
