Sustaining the Vision for Inclusive Development in UP Ecotour’s National Congress on Environmental Sustainability 2020

On February 15, 2020, the UP Environment and Tourism Society will be holding the annual National Congress on Environmental Sustainability (NCES), a whole-day event composed of different activities geared towards promoting awareness regarding pertinent environmental issues, sustainable and cultural development, and inculcation of the arts at the School of Statistics Auditorium, University of the Philippines Diliman. With the objective to increase the power of the youth in enabling change, the key goals of NCES are patterned to tackle the various 2030 Sustainable Development Goals by the United Nations.

This year, the National Congress on Environmental Sustainability aims to focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goal #11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) in order to pave the way towards a more inclusive society. It is our belief that in order to achieve this, we must be able to understand how culture plays a vital role in transforming our communities to be more safe and accessible for everyone. By promoting sustainable cultural development, we will be able to achieve better economic, social, and environmental growth for a developed Philippines.

Featuring esteemed speakers Ms. Claudia Perrine (Hineleban Farms), Mr. Mark Ocampo (Auro Chocolate), Ms. Suji DeHart (MAD Travel), Mr. Ramon Alampay (UP Asian Institute of Tourism), Atty. Aaron Pedrosa (Philippine Movement for Climate Justice), Mr. Roy Roberto (Asian Institute of Management), Ms. Eah Antonio (2030 Youth Force), and Keynote Speaker Ms. Jasmine Curtis-Smith, NCES 2020 will be attended by over 400 participants (students and young professionals) from different high schools, universities, and organizations across the country. NCES also holds competitions for excellence i.e., Domestikwhiz, which is a quiz bee competition involving the local and international natural and cultural heritage tourism. In addition to this, the event aims to promote community-based tourism through domestic travel and cultural awareness; geared towards fostering camaraderie among the youth.
