Sulok Cafe: Where You Can Enjoy Great Food, Relax, and Just Be Yourself

It is so easy to lose one’s identity these days. When you linger in a place that requires you to wear a mask in order to belong, it is not so difficult to eventually forget who you really are. This is why places that encourage individuals to be comfortable with who they truly are can be considered as gems.

Sulok Cafe is one of these places. Located in front of Ynares Center in Antipolo City, it is a place where you can simply relax while sipping a cup of freshly brewed coffee, eat your favorite food, and hang out with friends or just by yourself. It offers free Wi-Fi and plenty of wall sockets, too, so you can even finish some work here.

Sulok cafe was born out of the idea that each person longs to find their own sacred place where they can get rid of the masks they’ve worn elsewhere. Its owners Rodrigo and Andy, a millennial couple, quit their corporate jobs and decided to put up a business with their savings instead of spending for a lavish wedding, so it can be said that this cafe is their baby. Since they themselves are also coffee shop fanatics, they had ample ideas on what customers would like to find in a cafe. I think they did a great job of bringing everything to life.

When I visited Sulok Cafe with my sisters one Tuesday afternoon, we were welcomed by its youthful and relaxed vibe, unlike some places which can be intimidating at first. Personally, I like how simple yet creative its interiors are, particularly the writable walls on which visitors can write or draw using coloured chalk.

Rodrigo and Andy also welcomed us warmly. Right then and there, I could already tell that they were cool business owners; they were hands-on with the business and I could feel that they were really eager to know more about their customers.

Even the selection of food and drinks is a true celebration of individuality. Since it is diverse, you don’t need to worry about running out of options here. Regardless of what you’re craving, you can find something for you at Sulok Cafe.

Among the first dishes we sampled were the Fish Tacos and Chili Poppers, both of which are perfect appetizers.

Fish Tacos (P165)

I personally enjoyed eating the Fish Tacos because of their freshness and the veggies that go perfectly with the creamy goodness of their sour cream toppings.

The Chili Poppers (P135)

The Chili Poppers, on the other hand, have just the right level of spice—enough to excite and awaken the tastebuds for an epic food trip experience.

We also tried two pasta dishes, both in generous servings.

The Malunggay Pasta (P160)

The Malunggay Pasta is a unique take on pesto pasta. Instead of basil, the usual ingredient for pesto sauce, they use malunggay leaves for it.

Tuyo Mushroom Pasta (P160)

There is also the Tuyo Mushroom Pasta, which eventually became a favorite of mine. Though oil-based, it doesn’t leave a greasy feeling in the mouth – a sign that it is prepared with both skill precision. The level of saltiness is also just right and compliments all the other flavors present in the dish.

Corned Beef Bagizza (P145)

The Corned Beef Bagizza, one of Sulok Cafe’s signature dishes, is another source of delight, especially for pizza lovers fond of trying out new things. The flavorful and juicy corned beef goes perfectly with the crispy potato strings, fresh baguette, and cheese.

Chicken Sandwich (P160)

There is also the Chicken Sandwich, which wowed us with its generous serving of chicken tenders.

Adobo Flakes (P99)

Another dish we tried was the Adobo Flakes, which we love for its savory taste and crispiness.

Of course, we didn’t waste the chance to try the drinks, too.

Café Antonio (P120)

I had the Cafe Antonio, a marriage between bold coffee taste and sweetness. It is also smooth and creamy.

We really enjoyed our visit at Sulok Cafe. Besides having a great time devouring its sumptuous and reasonably priced dishes, we also had fun exchanging stories throughout our stay. We were also able to talk to Rodrigo and Andy, which made the experience even better. We will definitely visit this cafe more often—for more fun food trips and memorable bonding experiences. After all, we truly felt like we belonged there.
