Styling to the Next Level : Workshop by Lifestyle by Feliz

The last talk was from well-renowned stylist, Eldzs Mejia. He basically gave us tips on editorial styling. This kind of styling is obviously more professional and big time since you’ll be needing a lot of preparations to do beforehand. When you are styling for an editorial shoot, the most important thing you need to have with you is your styling kit. This kit includes masking tape, scissors, bull clamps, sewing kit, lint roller and steamer. This is the trick to editorial shoots. With these materials clothes will look better and fit the model better, thus making the shot more glamorous.

We started with how we can make our scarves 1. a piece of clothing 2. headwear.

He also gave us the process on how to produce a fashion editorial.

  1. Study new trends.- View recent runway looks of brands and designers, fill yourself with art and culture. This will be the inspiration of the whole shoot. This is the source of your inspiration or what we now call “peg”.
  2. Plan hair and make up.-  In styling shoots, you (as a stylist) have the authority to dictate the most fitting look for your models. This will help enforce your inspiration and make it more…you.
  3. Source and pullout clothes.- These are where your connections will come in. Know the right brands and designer that will fit your peg  so as to remain faithful to it.
  4. Build a good team.- Editorial styling is one whole event in itself since it requires a lot work to do. Make sure you choose skilled and pleasant team members for you to be able to carry out your work.

Finally, his last advice is to BUILD YOUR PORTFOLIO. This will make you ready for all future styling gigs you may have. When editors see the different looks you come up with, they will see your potential in the fashion industry. Also, it will also document have far you’ve improved in your style and work. Always put your best foot forward.

All in all it was one whole fruitful styling workshop. I’ve definitely learned more about styling, style and fashion. Thank you, Lifestyle by Feliz!
