In a study conducted by the University of Manchester, people who were over 6 ft were deemed more likely to contract the virus as scientists are now convinced of its aerosol transmission. Taller people are, in a way, at higher risk, because the virus is spreading through the air even more than originally assumed rather than just through droplets.
“The results of this survey in terms of associations between height and diagnosis suggest downward droplet transmission is not the only transmission mechanism and aerosol transmission is possible,” said Professor Evan Kontopantelis.
Which means it’s not just the droplets from coughing or sneezing that could cause the virus, but possibly transmission through the air.
“Though social distancing is still important because transmission by droplets is still likely to occur, it does suggest that mask wearing may be just as if not more effective in prevention,” they say.
“But also, air purification in interior spaces should be further explored.”
