Jack of All Trades – this exemplifies the advantage of Industrial Engineers in the industry and the society. Marking its tenth year, the Southern Tagalog Industrial Engineering Seminar (STIES) goes beyond its limits by promoting Industrial Engineering principles in different fields of the industry.
Presented by the University of the Philippines Los Baños Industrial Engineering Students’ Organization (UPLB IESO) in cooperation with the UPLB Department of Industrial Engineering, comes STIES X with the theme “DIVIDE AND CONQUER: Adapting to Every Industry, Equipped with Proficiency.”
STIES is a one-day annual event which aims to provide educative discussions between the speakers and the audience. Through the seminar, the students will be equipped with knowledge from the firsthand experiences of reputable speakers in the industry, which cannot be acquired in classes.
This year’s STIES stands out from the past versions of the seminar because it will give Industrial Engineering students a new perspective in the application of IEs in the industry. Taking STIES to the next level, the seminar comes with a set of concurrent breakout sessions in order to further raise the awareness of specific roles of Industrial Engineers in the different fields and industries.
The breakout sessions will be dealing with topics such as Financial Services, Healthcare, Aviation, Information Technology, Data Science, Agriculture, Food Manufacturing, and Logistics.
The aforementioned topics will be presented by different speakers who excel in their respective fields in the industry:
- Ms. Chris Evert Dela Cruz – Demand Manager at Watsons Personal Care Stores
- Mr. Lope Doromal, Jr. – Chief Technology Officer at IBM
- Mr. Jose Marie Saballero – Financial Advisor at Sunlife Philippines
- Mr. Miko David – Co-Founder of David & Golyat
- Ms. Contessa PreclaroBagro – Operations and Startup/ Production Manager at Nestle Philippines
- Mr. Timothy Quiros – Data Engineer at Lamudi Philippines
- Mr. Mathew Tamaray – General Manager – Corporate Planning at GMG Airlines
Aside from series of lectures and breakout sessions in the seminar, fun and informative activities will also be held wherein the participating schools can enjoy the camaraderie and friendly competition. One of the highlights of the seminar is the Mr. and Ms. STIES 2018 Pageant portion, wherein candidates from the participating schools will be vying for the crown.
