It was the last thing on my mind, so it came as a bit of a shock: Steps will be reuniting for a New Year’s Eve concert to celebrate their 20th anniversary.

They will be performing at the London nightclub G-A-Y, which hinted yesterday that a Brit award-winning group with 20 million records sold will be reforming for their New Year’s Eve party. It was revealed to be Steps, the group famous for the songs “5, 6, 7, 8” and “Last Thing on My Mind.”

All five members – Lee Latchford-Evans, Claire Richards, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer, and Ian ‘H’ Watkins – will be present at the concert.

Their last performance together was in 2012, when they released the album Light Up the World and went on tour the same year. They also did a Christmas tour in 2012.

Steps started in 1997 when Steve Crosby and Barry Upton (writers of “5, 6, 7, 8”) wanted to form a group with manager Tim Byrne. They put out an ad in a newspaper, and got the members. The original intention was to create a group that was “ABBA on speed,” and they became known for their choreography, which was usually included in their singles.
