Since its release on Netflix last September 17, Squid Game has taken the world by storm. Before the show actually started streaming, though, we got to join an online press conference with the director and the cast members, and we asked them whether they would join the games in real life if they were ever given the chance. Here’s what they had to say.
Lee Jung-jae
“Well, my mom is gonna say no. She’s not gonna let me. So I’m gonna say no.”
Park Hae-soo
“I think I’m gonna say no for now. Right now, I’m very happy and I’m very content, so I’m not gonna say yes because if anything involves putting my life on the line, I’m going to say no.”
HoYeon Jung
“It’s not about the money, I think, but putting your life at risk. I think that experience of putting your life at risk and really keeping it all for a couple of days, I think that’s an experience that’s not comparable to anything else.”
Heo Sung-tae
“I am really struggling. Now that I am 45 years old, I think a lot about the meaning of life these days. I don’t think money is it, so I’m going to say no.”
Wi Ha-joon
“I can win! I think I can win!”
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk
“When I wrote Squid Game in 2008 to 2009, I wanted to be a part of a game like this because I was in debt. I thought to myself, “I wish there was a chance like this.” But now I think I wouldn’t put my life at risk. These days, people are saying the world might no longer exist in three decades because of climate change, so I think every day is already like a survival game.”
