If you’ve been enjoying the free streaming of local musicals online, here’s something you should add to your list: Changing Partners will soon be available to stream, too!
The news was announced by Vincent de Jesus, who wrote the story. According to him, “Sino ang may gustong mapanood ito? Raise your hands! Itodo na natin during lockdown! Limited streaming of the 2018 production of the stage musical! Coming soon.” [“Who wants to watch this? Raise your hands! Let’s make the most out of the lockdown! Changing Partners explores the dynamics of Alex and Cris’s relationship. Alex is a successful 40-something, while Cris is a young millennial. What makes this musical interesting is that it explores the relationship through different lenses: what if Alex and Cris are a man and a woman, both women, and both men?
Changing Partners started as a stage reading in the 2016 Virgin Labfest. Two months later, it was adapted into full production, followed by a film adaptation the following year. In 2018, it returned to the stage with a limited run at the PETA Theater Center.
It has received several awards for its various versions. The play won a Palanca Award, the stage production was awarded Best Musical at the Bravo! Best of Theater Awards by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, and the film adaptation won eight awards at the Cinema One Originals Film Festival, including Best Director, Best Music, and Best Editing.
There’s no word when or where the streaming of the musical will be.
