Sofitel Runrio Battle of the Sexes: My Own Battle

I am registered to run 10 km at the Sofitel Runrio Battle of the Sexes. Few weeks before the run, the Philippines was hit by Maring and Habagat leaving a lot of places devastated and families homeless. Me and my colleagues planned medical missions held in two consecutive weeks that left me sleepless and exhausted. Nonetheless, the feeling of helping people was very priceless. I tried having my race kit exchanged to 5 km with another friend, but my friend was not in shape for a 10 km so she didn’t agree. The ending was, I braved to run 10km despite the lack of sleep and exhaustion.

That morning, I also found out that my other friend, who was supposed to run 10 km with me, lost her racekit, thus, won’t be able to run, leaving me alone again for another 10 km. I wanted to back out that morning, but said to myself that I can’t and I can finish my race. We arrived at the venue early enough to say hi to Ms. Jane of Sofitel Manila. After a while, I entered the start area, still composing myself on how I can finish my race.

And so the race started, and I started my battle to 10 km. The first 2 km, I was okay not until the 3rd km that I felt my toes in so much pain. I wanted to stop running because of the pain. I know that my toes will start to form blisters if I continue, but I decided to finish my race. Kilometer by kilometer, I slowly ran, I didn’t mind what time to get, my only goal was to finish the race. On my 9th km, I already felt like crying because my feet hurt a lot and yes, blisters were already formed. I repeatedly told myself that I’ve gone this far, I can and will finish this.

There was nothing more fulfilling than finishing my 10 km that day. Despite the blisters I had afterwards, I felt happy because I won my own battle and did not give up!
