Social Media Helped This Woman Get Back Home to Bicol

We’ve seen how social media has helped people reconnect with their loved ones. We’ve read about the story of the missing boy who was found after his mother posted an appeal on Facebook. And this time, it has helped again.

Netizen Lyz Malaza Pame posted a story on Facebook about a woman she met while dining with her aunt at a carinderia. According to the woman, she wanted to go back home to Bicol, but couldn’t because she didn’t have the contact number of her relatives back home. All she had was a picture.

Below is Lyz’s post:

(She is Aling Evelyn Baylin, 50 years old, and born on August 29. She is from San Felipe, Naga City, Bicol. She has been in Pacita, San Pedro, Laguna for a week now, where she has been sleeping on the side of the road. While I was eating lunch at a carinderia with my aunt yesterday, she was asking for food from people. My aunt asked her to sit and she gave Evelyn food, water, and soup. After the meal, I asked her questions.

She said she was working in Alabang as a dishwasher. She came here from Bicol to work. However, her boss got sick, the business shut down, so she lost her job. Because she didn’t have relatives here, she stayed on the streets. I asked her if she had the contact number of her son in Bicol, but she lost it. She also tried to go to the Municipal Hall but was turned away by the guard. The picture is of her youngest son’s ID. Let’s spread this photo in case someone can help her get back home.)

Since posting, someone offered to help Aling Evelyn get back to Bicol today. No other details has been released.
