‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘Life of Pi’ Actor Has Passed Away

Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan has passed away at the age of 53 on Wednesday, April 29.

Khan, who is among India’s most talented actors, was known best for his roles in internationally acclaimed films Slumdog MillionaireLife of PiJurassic World, and more. He made his big-screen debut with the Academy Award-nominated film Salaam Bombay! in 1988. He has worked with many big Hollywood directors, including Wes Anderson and Ang Lee, and has garnered many acting awards throughout his career.

It was back in 2018 when the actor revealed that he was diagnosed with an endocrine tumor and has since sought treatment for it.

He died after being admitted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital with a colon infection.

“Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him,” said the actor’s team in a press statement. “Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heaven abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own. We all pray and hope that he is at peace.”

Irrfan’s last movie, Angrezi Medium, which is a sequel to one of his biggest hit films, Hindi Medium, premiered in March 2020 right before the lockdown.

He is survived by his wife, Sutapa Sikdar, and his two sons.
