Sixteen Bars 2018: The Masterclasses with Brian Lowdermilk and Danny Rocco

  04Untitled 1

In June 2018, BRIAN LOWDERMILK (one half of the popular New York-based contemporary musical theatre composing tandem Kerrigan & Lowdermilk) will be coming to Manila to meet  K&L’s Pinoy fans, as well as to share knowledge in a weekend of masterclasses for both songwriting and song interpretation.

BRIAN LOWDERMILK made his Off-Broadway debut with Henry and Mudge in 2006, working with his now-frequent collaborator, lyricist-librettist Kait Kerrigan. The pair returned to  Off-Broadway in November 2017 with The Mad Ones (a retooled version of one of their most well-known works, The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown ). His other projects with Kait Kerrigan include The Bad Years, Republic, Unbound, Flash of Time, Wrong Number, and The Woman Upstairs, as well as two albums, Our First Mistake and Kerrigan-Lowdermilk Live. Lowdermilk has been a recipient of the Jonathan Larson Award, Alan Menken Award,  Richard Rodgers Award, and Dramatists Guild Fellowship. He is an Alumnus of NYU and the  BMI Musical Theatre Writing Workshop, and is currently the CEO of the start-up, and a member of the Dramatists Guild and ASCAP.

This August, New York-based playwright-actor DANNY ROCCO of the Atlantic Acting School is teaming up with Sixteen Bars for a two-weekend acting masterclass in Manila. The masterclass is a short intensive that introduces students to the fundamentals of Practical Aesthetics. The  aim of the masterclass is to “to give students fundamental, practical strategies to connect to  their breath, connect to their fellow actors, and react and act impulsively and truthfully on  stage.”  DANNY ROCCO is a New York-based playwright and actor. He currently teaches at the  Atlantic Acting School, the world-famous home of the Practical Aesthetics technique developed by playwright David Mamet and actor William H. Macy. Rocco is a graduate of NYU  and of Columbia University, where he received his MFA in playwriting. His plays have been produced in New York (What The Sparrow Said, The Room and a Richard, Sun and Room, and most recently, Convention), as well as in LA, Durango, CO, Cape Cod and Romania. He is currently developing a new play for the Atlantic Acting School, and working on the screenplay adaptation of his play What The Sparrow Said.
