When in Manila, love will always be every Filipino’s favorite topic. This year, La Salle Dance Company – Contemporary takes us through a journey of life through the eyes of love with Simbuyo: Ang Ikalawang Yugto.
The La Salle Dance Company – Contemporary, will be presenting their 33rd anniversary dance concert entitled “Simbuyo”; a dance concert dedicated to love and defining it as a major factor in creating art as an indispensable element of humanity. Love’s different facets, forms and deeper meaning will be exposed in every dancer’s movement. It is the restaging of it 2006 predecessor entitled, “Simbuyo: Ang Salamin Ng Iyong Puso”.
Simbuyo and Its Meaning
“ Simbuyo” is an old Tagalog translation for the word ‘passion’. It means siklab, lagablab o silakbo ng damdamin. It will be the best description of the strong emotions that will be represented in the story; the fiery passion of love indifferent forms and the fire the burns in everyone keeping us alive and making our lives worth living. Chroreography and direction of Simbuyo is by LSDC – Contemporary’s artistic director, Peter Alcedo Jr. The show is for the benefit of Cancer Institute Foundation.
