After more than two years, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have officially broken up.
The two announced the news at the same time on their respective Instagram stories through the following statement: “Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward.”
The two were first rumored to be dating in July 2019 before going public with it in September through a video of them sloppily making out to hit back at their haters. They have since seemed inseparable, as frequently evidenced by their many photos and videos of them performing PDA.
They reportedly quarantine together in Miami for the majority of 2020. At the time, Shawn admitted to Entertainment Weekly that there was a possibility of them getting engaged considering that Camila was “one of my best friends” since he was still young. “I don’t know, at the same time, I know we are really young so I don’t want to jump, like, insanely fast, but I think when you find your person, you feel and you know that you have found your person,” he added.
In August of this year, Shawn also revealed to SiriusXM that they “get in the worst little arguments” but “it never gets bad.”
Camila then confirmed in an interview with Glamour back in October that they took individual therapy to help strengthen their relationship.
Unfortunately, it seems that they’ve reached the end of their happily ever after.
