Season 3 of “True Detective” Will Air in 2019

True Detective

If you’re a fan of the crime drama True Detective, we have news for you: the third season will take a while to air and will be available in 2019.

The news was confirmed by HBO programming president Casey Bloys, who told Entertainment Weekly, “We couldn’t have it ready for ’18 so you can assume ’19.”

For the show’s third season, Mahershala Ali stars as an Arkansas state investigator. He is set to solve a “macabre crime… and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods” with Stephen Dorff as his partner and Carmen Ejogo as his wife.

True Detective will go into production next month.

The show is an anthology, meaning each season is its own independent story with a separate cast. The first season starred Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monaghan, Michael Potts, and Tory Kittles, and was set in Louisiana as McConaughey and Harrelson hunted a serial killer for 17 years. For its second season, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, Kelly Reilly, and Vince Vaughn attempt to piece together crimes in California which they believe are linked to the murder of a politician.

The first season was received well, with Rotten Tomatoes saying that “performances by Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey reel the viewer in, while the style, vision and direction make it hard to turn away.”

We’re all looking forward to next’s year’s season!
