Philippines Bops To The Top of Dancesport With 10 Gold Medals

After 12 years of absence from the Southeast Asian Games, the Philippines’ dancesport athletes were determined to show that the sport still has a place in the regional tournament. They were able to accomplish that and so much more! The Philippine contingent for dancesport ended day 1 of SEA Games 2019 with a total of 12 medals, 10 of which were gold.

(SEA Games Opening Leaves Athletes Inspired And In Awe)

The dancing duo of Sean Mischa Aranar and Ana Leonila Nualla claimed all of 3 gold medals in the Tango, Viennese Waltz, and All Five Standard Dances events. While the pair of Mark Jayson Gayon and Mary Joy Renigen successfully claimed 2 gold medals for Waltz and Foxtrot and a silver medal for the Quickstep.

Wilbert Fajardo and Pearl Marie Cañeda proved themselves a formidable team when it comes to the Latin style of dancing. They clinched the top spot in the Samba, Rumba and Chachacha events.

Finally, Michael Marquez and Stephanie Sabalo round out the wins of the day for dancesport with two golds in the Paso Doble and All Five Latin Dances events and a silver in Jive.
