The Philippines’ very own super boyband SB19 is in the running for the Top Social Artist Award for the 2021 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs)!
The group is among the five finalists in the category which is dependent on fan votes and will be going up against the likes of Kpop sensations BTS, Seventeen, and Blackpink as well as American pop star Ariana Grande.
In reaction to the news, SB19 thanked all their fans and supporters as they hope to bring the award home to their fellow Filipinos.
“WE MADE IT, A’TIN! We are nominated for Top Social Artist of this year’s Billboard Music Awards! We are so grateful for your love and support. We wouldn’t have come this far without all of you. A’TIN ‘TO! Iwawagayway ang WATAWAT!” they wrote in a tweet.

SB19’s nomination is the first for any Filipino musician in the top social artist category since it was introduced in 2011. Winners will be chosen based on music streaming, social engagement, and online voting. “Yummy” hitmaker Justin Bieber has won the award from 2011 to 2016 before getting his streak broken by BTS, who has consistently won the award since 2017.
SB19 landed in the sixth spot of the Billboard’s Top Social 50 Artists of 2020 chart making them the only Filipino artist to ever make it to the Top 10.
The 2021 BBMAs will take place on May 23 at 8PM EST (May 24, 8 AM Manila time).
