The actress has confirmed the news, expressing her enthusiasm for the revival.

“Soโ€ฆ.. you might have heard some news this week, but I realize you havenโ€™t heard from me,” she began, detailing how the revival came about.

Gellar revealed that three years ago, she got a call from Gail Berman, who produced “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” to discuss the series’ revival alongside filmmaker Chloรฉ Zhao.

“I was blown away that Chloรฉ even knew who I was, but, as Iโ€™ve always done, I told Gail that I just didnโ€™t see a way for the show to exist again,” she said.

“Weโ€™d always been aligned on that, but this time I heard something different in her voice. I eventually agreed to go (mainly just to meet Chloรฉ) and our twenty-minute coffee quickly turned into a four-hour adventure. We laughed, we cried, but mostly we both talked about how much this show means to us,” she added.

Gellar also admitted she was surprised to find herself continuing the conversation, even though she hadn’t agreed to anything. She eventually reconsidered the revival.

“These conversations did, in fact, continue over the next few years and eventually we added the incredible Nora and Lilla Zuckerman to our little tribe until ultimately, one day, we landed on an idea,” she noted.

The actress reassured her fans that they are striving to live up to the original series.

“I have always listened to the fans and heard your desire to revisit ‘Buffy’ and her world, but it was not something I could do unless I was sure we would get it right. This has been a long process, and itโ€™s not over yet. I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do it right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there,” she emphasized.

She concluded her post by expressing her appreciation for the team and thanking her fans, saying, “I feel so lucky to be on this journey with these four unbelievably talented women, all of whom love ‘Buffy’ as much as I do. And as much as you do. Thank you to all the fans who never stopped asking for this. This will be for you.”

As of writing, further details about the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” revival have yet to be announced.

Released in 1997, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” follows the story of a high school girl Buffy Summers (portrayed by Gellar), a slayer chosen to fight vampires, demons, and other supernatural forces. The series concluded with seven seasons in 2003.
