Sarah Geronimo’s ‘Tala’ Reaches 100 Million Views on YouTube

Sarah Geronimo has gained yet another cause for celebration. Only a week after tying the knot with long-time boyfriend Matteo Guidicelli, Sarah’s Tala music video surpassed the 100 million YouTube views mark this February 27.

The video was initially released 4 years ago, in June 2016. While already a popular release at the time, it aggressively resurged late 2019 when it became a viral dance challenge. #TalaDanceChallenge took over the internet, with even local and international celebrities taking part in it.

Sarah previously thanked the LGBT community for popularizing her song once again. “Sa LGBT community, talagang tinangkilik nila ’yung song na ’to pati ’yung choreography,” she said. [To the LGBT community, you really popularized this song, especially the choreography.]

Tala also landed on the US Billboard’s Digital Song sales chart at the 12th spot last January. It joined the likes of K-pop artists BTS, Blackpink and Red Velvet. It was also part of Spotify’s Global Viral 50 and YouTube’s weekly global chart of the world’s most viewed music videos.

She is the first local female artist to reach this milestone of 100 million views on YouTube.
