The Sailor Moon Eternal trailer is out—here’s what we know about the movie so far

In the name of the Moon, I’ll punish you!

A lot of us have grown up watching and reading the manga of Sailor Moon—a superheroine series written by Naoko Takeuchi. The series follows the adventures of Usagi Tsukino, also known as Sailor Moon. Joined by other Sailor Soldiers, she defends Earth against different evil villains.

The anime adaptation first aired in 1992 and has even been rebooted last 2014 as Sailor Moon Crystal as a “more faithful adaptation of the original manga.” And now, we get yet another adaptation this 2021 by the name of Sailor Moon Eternal, or Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal Season IV: Eternal the Movie.

Sailor Moon Eternal Poster

A two-part anime film project originally scheduled for September 11, 2020, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic delayed the opening. Thus, the first part of the film will be released in Japan on January 8, 2021, while the second part will open on February 11, 2021.

According to a report from Anime News Network, Sailor Moon Eternal takes place during the Dream arc of the manga, which features the Dead Moon Circus. Actress Nanao will be playing Queen Nehellenia, leader of the Dead Moon. Joining her is Shouta Aoi as Fish Eye, Satoshi Hino as Tiger’s Eye, and Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Hawk’s Eye.

On the other hand, the Amazoness Quartet characters will be in the franchise as well. Yuko Hara will be playing as JunJun, alongside Reina Ueda as CereCere, Sumire Morohoshi as PallaPalla, and Rie Takahashi as VesVes. In addition, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka will be playing Pegasus or Helios in the movie.
