Rustic Mornings by Isabelo : Defining Breakfast

For those wondering why their name is Rustic Mornings by Isabelo , it is because the restaurant is originally by Isabelo. Isabelo has been in the market for 5 years now. They’re an exclusive restaurant and strictly opens at night via reservation. On the other hand, Rustic Mornings is a less exclusive restaurant mainly because they accept walk-ins. They are open until 4 pm, beyond that point, Rustic Mornings ‘ menu is inaccessible already.

So yes. The place offers 2 menus. The Rustic Mornings menu is available from 8-am to 4pm while the Isabelo menu is available 6pm onwards.

Since we’re on the topic of the menu. Here’s the part of the post that I show and tell you all the mouthwatering dishes of Rustic Mornings. Starting with their 2 famous plates, waffles and pancakes.

Pancakes are always a good idea.

“When it comes to brunch (or breakfast) the battle will always be between who has the best pancakes. Second would be the waffles.” This was what Ms. Portia told us as she placed her homemade buttercream on top of the waffle and pancakes.

Everything from Rustic Mornings is homemade because they believe that “food should be appreciated as they are”, Nothing too fancy or pretentious but still satisfying the demands of the Filipino palate.

2- Piece real Buttermilk Pancakes, bacon and hash brown

The verdict: Well, the buttermilk pancakes are simply sublime. It’s thick but light and not airy. How did do they do that? I don’t know.  I just continue stuffing my mouth with it. Also, it’s the first time I’ve eaten pancakes without putting syrup. Personally, the pancakes from Rustic Mornings are tasty enough to be eaten as it is. Everything else on the plate is delicious.

Waffle Churros from Rustic Mornings

The same goes with their waffle churros. They’re a new addition to their waffle line-up. The waffles from Rustic Mornings are currently fourth in the list of best waffles in town but these would definitely put them in the highest rank. The sugary coating is definitely something else. It’s crispy on the outside but very moist and fluffy inside. Again, the homemade syrup is there for added flavor but just like their pancakes, these waffles can stand on their own as well.

We had the privilege of talking to Ms. Portia about her food and her beloved restaurant while she garnished and served the food in front of us.

The first two plates will make you full already but since breakfast is the best meal of the day (I am biased, my apologies), make sure that when you go to Rustic Mornings you’ll make room for more. Trust me, the menu is enticing enough to try almost everything in it. The next few dishes are all pretty heavy because their serving size is pretty big.

If you’re a sandwich girl or guy, the hotdog topped with chili con carne and eggs sandwiched between a soft bun gives you the delicious marriage of meat and beans. The chili con carne is thick and packed with beans and ground meat that makes the sandwich extra flavorful.

Breakfast in Rustic Mornings is incomplete without omelets. Their 3-egg cheese meatlovers omelet hits straight to childhood. The eggs are perfectly cooked and topped with onion, alaminos longanissa and bacon. Their 3-egg cheese omelet choices come with 2 sliches or crunchy ciabatta bread, homemade herbed butter and fruit jam.

Rustic Mornings also serve Filipino breakfast trays such as the Crispy Tawilis. We all know about the salty love affair we Filipinos have for tuyo and tinapa but these tawilis may outshine the two. The dish gives the face of fish favorites a new contender. The tawilis are so crispy the tinik won’t even bother you, plus the tomatoes, eggs and vinaigrette makes it a party of Filipino flavor in your mouth.

Rustic Mornings also put the meatball dish in a whole new level. With the Creamy Curry Kofta Balls, your search for authentic and exotic flavor is a done deal. You’d love curry after eating this dish. The meatballs are compact with meat and veggies, while the sauce it’s immersed in is curry at its finest. This explosion of flavor was what ended our dining experience.

Dishes like the Creamy Curry Kofta Balls are lunch bowls that are good for two. Other lunch bowls offered by Rustic Mornings are: cheesy Chicken Fricasse, Beef Ribs and Grilled Fresh Soy Tuna Belly.

When in Manila, discover Rustic Mornings and find out for yourself how beautiful the whole place is. I advise you to go on a weekday, if you really can’t make time on weekdays then brave the restaurant on weekends but be sure to secure a table and order in advance. It’s a secret garden restaurant within the city of Marikina so you’ll get a bit lost finding it. Such are the efforts we all do for good food, right?  You won’t regret it.
