Experience UP Fair like never before as The UP Underground Music Community in cooperation with UP Advertising Core presents “Roots: Music and Arts Festival”, the biggest, wildest and loudest concert event this UP Fair 2013 on February 14 at 6PM. The festival will include live musical performances, on-the-spot visual arts and poetry, and more. All in all, this night displays a part of what the local scene has. Handling this UP fair night will be a way for the organization to give an avenue to the local artists and their talents; giving them an opportunity to be seen and heard by a wider audience.
Founded by five UP students and alumni on September 21, 2002, The UP Underground Music Community is a recognized non-profit student organization based in the University of the Philippines Diliman built on three tenets: RESPECT, MUSIC and BROTHERHOOD. Through these tenets and our unyielding commitment to local music, we aim to provide venues for independent local musicians to showcase their talents and passion for music. One of our grand long-term goals is to reinvent the local music industry for the better. The community and over the years its events continue to grow in scale and reach.
It has also gained popularity in the local music scene with UP Underground Music Community bands being consistently invited to local events. Most recently, home-grown bands, such as AngBandang Shirley andGiniling Festival, have started emerging in public consciousness. The organization has also made history in the University of the Philippines by being the first to mount a mobile concert during the UP Lantern Parade of 2003.
At this point, the UP Underground Music Community aims to expand and create progressively grander and more meaningful events to effectively make its mark on a nationwide scale. The organization does not see mediocre approaches for the local music industry’s further development. As the community grows, so does its capacity to create change and come up with events that will resound in the long run. For that matter, the UP Underground Music Community would like you to become a part of its growth and endeavors.
