WATCH: Robert Downey Jr. Pays Tribute To Stan Lee At People’s Choice Awards

E! People’s Choice Awards took place last Sunday, November 10. One of the night’s big winners was Robert Downey Jr. when he took home the trophy for Male Movie Star Of 2019 for Avengers: Endgame. Aside from the cast, crew, and studio behind the movie he had one important person to thank: the legendary Stan Lee.

Lee passed away in November of last year at 95 years old. He left behind a legacy of Marvel’s most iconic heroes. A big part of that legacy is, of course, Tony Stark aka Iron Man. Which is exactly why Downey Jr. spent a part of his speech honoring Lee.

(Wait, Is Robert Downey Jr. Really Returning As Iron Man In Black Widow?)

He started by mentioning all of the usuals and giving them their due. “Well look, I just got to come up here and open the show so I’ll just say thank you, Disney, thank you, Marvel, thank you Russo brothers,” he said.

Then came the short but appreciative mention of Lee: “And most of all, to the late, great Stan Lee, this is for you, buddy.”

This wouldn’t be the first tribute the actor paid to the comic book legend. When news of Lee’s passing first came out Downey Jr. shared a photo of themselves standing arm-in-arm. “’I owe it all to you… Rest In Peace Stan… #MCU #Excelsior #legend #rip #stanlee #TeamStark,” he captioned it.
