Basketball and volleyball along with road safety activities are the order of the day as the Auto REVIEW Road Safety Olympics opens its next activity on March 21 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, in cooperation with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Participants will mix it up in the whole-day of activities featuring road safety stakeholders from the government and private sectors including the motoring industry’s Mazda Phils, Chevrolet Phils, Hyundai, Bridgestone Tires, with support from Isuzu Philippines, Mitsubishi Motors & Toyota Motor Phils.

Aside from the ballgames, cheerleading exhibitions & road safety slogan chants will be performed by UAAP/NCAA schools and other groups in line with the theme Road Safety: Everybody’s Responsibility also in support of the United Nations-initiated Decade of Action for Road Safety (DARS) 2011-2020.

The  advocacy event held in cooperation with Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Philippine Global Road Safety Partnership, Automotive Association Philippines, Department of Interior & Local Government, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Red Cross, Roadhouse Manila Bay, AGC Flat Glass Phils., Department of Public Works & Highways and the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines was launched last January 24 at the SM by the Bay in Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Over 300 participants, most of them traffic enforcers from all over Metro Manila, played  beach volleyball, engaged in a tug-of-war and amazing race-type road safety trivia challenge, took part in a festive parade that culminated in a pledge by the participants to instill good road habits and courtesy for motorists, pedestrians and other road users.

“We thought of something different so we had sports activities to drive home the message of road safety and courtesy. People just love sports and to our belief, it can very well mix with the promotion of road safety as everyone’s responsibility”, said Ron de los Reyes, producer-host of Auto REVIEW, one of the country’s longest-running motoring shows aired on PTV, now on its 20th year.

The initial AR-RSO media partners include Malaya Business Insight, Business Mirror, PTV 4, C! Magazine, Top Gear, Manila Broadcasting Company, DZSR Sports Radio, WheninManila.com and Carmudi.com.ph.
