Rico Blanco Reacts to Edited Clip of ‘Trese’ Opening Credits Using His Song ‘Yugto’

Since the release of the animated Netflix series “Trese” based on the Filipino comics of the same name, there have been numerous edited clips being uploaded online of people’s own takes on the show, from dubbing the lines themselves to meme-ing certain scenes. But there was one that went viral wherein the opening credits sequence was edited to feature Rico Blanco’s song “Yugto.”

“I think ‘Trese’ not having @ricoblanco’s ‘Yugto’ as its opening theme is a missed opportunity,” the editor, Tito Ken TV, said in a Tweet. “Sinubukan kong i-edit yung opening credits. Grabe, mangiyak-ngiyak ako nung una kong napanood yung resulta (I tried editing the opening credits. Wow, I was moved to tears the first time I watched the result).”

Many Filipino netizens have since aired their opinions regarding the edited opening credits. Though there were some that appreciated the idea, others affirmed their preference for the original tune used in the show which was a traditional song of the Ifugao called “Balluha’d Bayauhen.”

Naturally, the edit did not go unnoticed by the “Yugto” singer. Rico retweeted the clip with a simple reaction: a wide-eyed blushing emoji.

The editor gushed over the retweet and said, “Imagine yung gulat ko nung nagising ako na tunog nang tunog ang phone ko, niretweet na pala ni idol yung video (Imagine my shock when I woke up to my phone continuously going off. It turned out that my video was retweeted by my idol).”

The edit has garnered nearly 3K retweets, 1.6K quote retweets, and 15.2K likes on Twitter and has also received over 35K views on YouTube as of writing.

“Trese” follows the story of Alexandra Trese, a detective who deals with crime cases of supernatural origin. It was created by KaJo Baldisimo and Budjette Tan who both served as showrunners for the Netflix series directed by Jay Olivia.
