CE Talk Poster for WIM

The Annual Civil Engineering Talk, or CE Talk, continues to inspire Civil Engineering students to make a move towards the betterment of the country by further exposing them to the six fields of Civil Engineering. It also aims to encourage future engineers of this generation to build innovations that promote sustainable development by engaging them in informative discussions about relevant issues in the country.

This year, the 12th Annual Civil Engineering Talk, entitled RESILIENCE: Hazard Risk Mitigation in the Philippines Through Sustainable and Innovative Engineering, will be focusing on one of the more pressing issues in the country: Disaster Risk Reduction. A total of 12 esteemed experts will share their knowledge and expertise on October 13 to 14, 2017 at UP Cine Adarna in UP Diliman.

The 12th CE Talk aims to raise awareness about the relevance of Civil Engineering in our battle against natural and man-made hazards. It will be tackling the four prevalent hazards in the Philippines, namely: Fire, Earthquake, Landslide and Hydrometeorological Hazards, and will be relating it to the fields of Civil Engineering. Three main topics will be discussed per session, with two sessions per day. Hazard Mitigation, Adaptation of Prevention for Talk 1, Community and Household Preparedness against Hazards for Talk 2 and Hazard Risk Reduction through Engineering for Talk 3.

Professionals from all fields of Engineering, the academe, and the local administration will be invited to share their knowledge about their field of expertise. With talks detailing Fire and Earthquake Hazards, the first day of the 12th CE Talk, entitled Diverge, will be inviting speakers from the Bureau of Fire Protection and DRR advocates for the morning session, and experts from the structural earthquake engineering field and CSWCD for the afternoon session.

On the second day of the event, Landslides and  Hydrometeorological Hazards will be tackled, hence the day title Surge. Professionals from the academe and DOST-PHIVOLCS will enlighten the participants about landslides in the morning session while another set of professionals from the academe and Project NOAH will be discussing Hydrometeorological Hazards, such as rains, typhoons, and floods.

CE Talk has been one of the largest gatherings of Civil Engineering students in Luzon and Visayas, and as it opens its doors for all Engineering students this year, a total of 2,500 students are expected to learn more from the real industry. Through this annual event, we aspire to build future engineers of this nation with the heart to serve the nation and knowledge to build more resilient communities across the Philippines.
