One of the country’s premier research events, Research Fair 2020, is set to return on its 19th edition this January 30-February 1, 2020 in the University of the Philippines Diliman.

High school students from across the country will get the chance to participate in the various events that Research Fair has to offer.

Themed “CHRYSALIS: Transforming Youth Potential into Scientific Breakthroughs,” it signifies the continuous innovation of Research Fair in order to fully realize youth potential and transform them into tangible ideas that will benefit the research community and more importantly, the nation.

Organized by the University of the Philippines Academic League of Chemical Engineering Students (UP ALCHEMES), Research Fair offers an avenue for Filipino student-researchers to prove their prowess in research, as well as a link between the youth researchers and their professional counterparts both in the field and academe.

Research Fair 2020 will feature two sub-events: the Research Competition will showcase scientific studies and innovations from various high schools in the country. The students will compete in three categories: Applied Sciences, Life Sciences, and Physical Sciences. The research entries will undergo four rounds of judging, and a live Final Defense Round will determine the Grand Champion.

RF 2020’s second sub-event is the Youth Science Convention, a seminar and workshop series to introduce research developments in the Philippines and worldwide, to inculcate the essential contributions of research to our country’s progress, and to encourage students to be involved in the various research fields in the country.

Research Fair humbly began in 2001 as a one-day event with just 10 research entries. The event has grown through the years and was expanded into a three-day event in 2010. The most recent edition, Research Fair 2019, was among the largest, with 489 participants from 50 schools as well as 239 research entries.
