REFLECTION X REFRACTION” came from the idea that whatever we do in life will be reflected back to us, even if it refracts or changes its direction from time to time. In this multimedia exhibit, the artist discusses how we dictate what karma comes to us; goodness begets goodness, and evil begets evil—we are served what we deserve. As such, the artist uses glass and mirror as his primary medium to present the Twelve Laws of Karma and to show the audiences that what they do is reflected back to them in an ubiquitous and continuous cycle until passing.

The artist’s works are open for interpretation as the concept of karma is very neutral. The exhibit is heavily inspired by Mark Justiniani so the artist utilized three more elements for his exhibition in order to produce disparity and contrast with his work.

This exhibition aims to illustrate that karma is everywhere; that each and every action, no matter how big or small, entails karma. Despite the ambiguity of the works, the artist hopes to enlighten the audience and show them that whatever they do in life will be reflected back to them at any cost. The artist elaborated the concept of karma through an illustration of its laws to help his audience understand it better for them to keep it in mind and use it as an inspiration and guide for their choices and actions in life. We heavily rely on our conscience, and this instinctive knowledge of right and wrong and how we handle it is significant in how we will dictate what happens to us in our lives.

About the Artist: Alexander is a graduating student from Asia Pacific College, currently completing his degree in Multimedia Arts with specialization in film. He loves doing experimental and narrative short films to let his audience think what the message behind his works are. His style explores the perspective of his audience towards a specific topic or conflict so that when his audience sees his works, they can interpret his works freely.
