Red Bull Can You Make It – Adventure of a Lifetime!

 

HOW FAR COULD YOU MAKE IT ACROSS EUROPE WITH RED BULL AS YOUR ONLY CURRENCY?

Red Bull Can You Make It will be the adventure of a lifetime. 100 university teams from 27 countries around the world will be tasked the mind and body challenge of travelling over 1000 kilometers across Europe in 7 days using only Red Bull cans as currency.

How will it work? The 100 teams that will be selected by a jury based on their desire for adventure, charm of their application and energy, will start from one of the 4 starting point in London, Paris, Milan and Vienna.

During the seven-day journey, competitors won’t be allowed to use cash or credit cards, and instead must trade cans of Red Bull for transportation, lodging, food and other necessities in order to reach the Finish Line in Berlin. There are 30 checkpoints spread out across the rest of Europe. Teams will have to visit a minimum of 6 to be eligible to successfully complete the competition. The teams will upload photos and videos of their journey, and rally support from followers back home.

The team that arrives in Berlin on April 11 by 5pm who have travelled the further distance in the 7 days, reached the most checkpoints, used more transportation methods than any other team and who rally the greatest support following, will be crowned the Red Bull Can You Make It champions. The prize: a paid trip for the team to any Red Bull event around the world.

 

Representing the Philippines are Dave Agbayani, Red Calayan, and R-jay Esposo, from University of the Philippines –forming Team Beasts of the Southeasts. The team was chosen out of 10 applicants from various Philippine universities through thorough deliberation by both the local and international Red Bull teams. They will  be leaving for Vienna on April 2 and will be starting off the race on April 4 at the Vienna Schwechat.

It’s a journey of wits, adventure and strategy that leaves one main question: can they make it?

TELL US HOW YOU PLAN ON MAKING IT ACROSS EUROPE WITH ONLY RED BULL AS CURRENCY!

Beyond having the motivation to enjoy the adventure with each other and party that party of a lifetime, we intend to make the best out of our irresistible charm, undeniable good looks, and the inherent kindness in the human soul. We have faith in humanity! Also, Filipinos have been trading and bartering for ages. That skill is in our blood! We can also supplement trading cans of Red Bull with talents like cracking jokes, doing magic tricks, and other forms of cheap entertainment.

IMAGINE THAT YOU AND YOUR TEAM MEMBERS ARE ANIMALS. WHAT ANIMALS ARE EACH OF YOU AND WHY?

If we were animals, Red would be a bull, because he’s Red; R-jay would be the Philippine monkey-eating eagle, because he’ll eat anything; and Dave would be a Philippine carabao, because we “carabout” each other. And we’d make the craziest pack in the jungle.

SHARE THE GREATEST ADVENTURE YOU HAVE EVER HAD.

Each of us has had individual adventures – Red lived in Russia by himself for two months for an exchange program, R-jay has visited the temples of Cambodia, and Dave has toured around Macau and has gotten to know the locals. But as a trio, we’ve never had any noteworthy life-changing adventures aside from the ups and downs of our friendship. This is why we’re really looking forward to this adventure that Red Bull offers us. We have yet to embark on the greatest adventure of our lives.

HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE COMPETITION?
Our friend Simon tagged us on FB saying pwede kami dito. Then hinatak namin si R-jay who was in Bataan that time for an immersion.

WHY DO YOU THINK YOU WERE SELECTED AMONGST THE OTHER TEAMS TO REPRESENT THE PHILIPPINES?

We have 26 reasons!!! (Referring to video) But we actually thought we won’t get it cause the other application videos were great. We think it’s because in the video, we showed who we really are. We’re like that in real life! Our personalities came out.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST REACTION WHEN YOU GOT THE CALL/EMAIL?

We were all so happy and Dave thought that it was a prank call! It’s cause we were expecting the teams to be announced 3 days after since it said that the website will go live by then and we got a call in advance.

WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING TO PREPARE FOR THE TRIP?

Aside from rallying support from our friends, we’re planning to do some physical exercises. But the key word there is PLANNING! But each of us is assigned to a language. Rjay is assigned to learn basic French, Dave was assigned to the German language and Red to the Italian. Also of course promoting the page to our friends.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT?

DAVE: Cheesy but yung level up ng friendship namin! But as a group, of course it’s mostly immersing ourselves with the locals as well as meeting the other teams from different
countries with different cultures.

WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES YOU THINK YOU WILL BE FACING?

RED: Overcoming our inherent Filipino shyness and asking for big favors. Also a bit of tension when the race gets challenging and wise time and Red Bull Management.
DAVE: I’m not good at navigation so that might be a problem. Also maybe the lack of physical exercise. We might become over confident but under prepared. But with Red Bull… anything is possi-BULL!

RJAY: I think it’s internal conflict mainly because we’ll get hungry, stressed, tired and won’t have anyone else but ourselves in a whole different country.

WHY IS YOUR GROUP NAMED BEASTS OF THE SOUTHEAST?

It was a suggestion of Red’s brother but R-jay confessed that the truth was they along with Red’s big brother were talking about what their porn names would be and if we’d have to have a movie, the title should be Beasts of the Southeast!

WHAT CHARACTERISTICS OR TRAITS ARE YOU BRINGING TO THE TEAM THAT CAN BE AN ADVANTAGE COMPARED TO OTHER TEAMS?

RED: Navigation skills and maybe it will be helpful that I speak Russian? But as a group, we’re all genuinely charming!
DAVE: I’m tall so I can reach heights that Red can’t! Also the lightest so maybe it will be an advantage in some of the check point challenges. We’re all also witty, charming and very handsome.
RJAY: Maybe it’s me being firm with decision making. But as a group, we’re all extroverts so we can for sure easily interact and be friends with others.

WHICH SITES OR DESTINATIONS ARE YOU MOST EXCITED TO VISIT?

RED: Vienna cause it’s really beautiful and the country side of Italy.
DAVE: I have no idea but my friends say Prague is wonderful so I look forward to that.
RJAY: London because when I was a kid, I always wanted to drink tea while wearing a trench coat!

WOULD YOU CONSIDER THIS ADVENTURE A TEST OF YOUR FRIENDSHIP?

RED: Yes! Yes definitely cause I’m sure we’re gonna fight and stuff so hopefully we come back as friends. There’s a lot at stake and the flight going back will be expensive if we don’t make it!!! 

DAVE: Test of friendship? More like the best of friendship! It will of course bring out the worst in us but it will for sure bring out the best as well.
RJAY: Yes, cause it’s the first time we’re all in a different country where we won’t know anyone and only have ourselves to depend on.
