The UP Economics Towards Consciousness (UP ETC) will be launching its latest event called the Philippine Debate and Economic Forum (PDEF) at the University of the Philippines-Diliman, November 25, 2017 from 8 AM to 6 PM with the theme: PDEF: Fight for Accessible, Sustainable and Quality Education (FAQS)

The PDEF is a rebranded event which originated from the organization’s annual event, Kapihan. This rebranding aims to further solidify what sets the event apart from other nationwide debates and forums – highlighting the economic perspective. PDEF is an event designed for undergraduate students to be involved and engaged in healthy discourse on pressing issues faced by society.

PDEF 2017 will highlight the discourse on Accessible, Sustainable, and Quality Education of which is a timely, relevant and debatable issue given the recent passage of the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act (R.A. 10931). The event will first inform the audience of the different perspectives that are integral to know and better understand the intricacies of tertiary education in the country, and to give them a chance to ask questions from experts that will be invited to the discussion. Some of the experts that UP ETC will be having for this year’s PDEF are Assoc. Professor Toby Melissa Monsod from UP School of Economics, Asst. Professor Jan Robert Go from Political Science Department and Sociology Department Asst. Professor Herbert Docena from UP College of Social Science and Philosophy.

After the educational discussion, students will be given a chance to express their thoughts and opinions regarding the aforementioned issue through the series of competitions that PDEF will have: debate competition, public speaking competition, policy brief competition and video making competition.
