READ: Leni Robredo Shares Letter Jesse Wrote For Young Aika

Life is too short, but its shortness should remind us to live in the present and appreciate what we have. Fortunately, those who have passed on have left keepsakes for their loved ones, who preserve their memory by keeping it. That’s what Vice President Leni Robredo did, when she posted a letter her late husband Jesse Robredo wrote for their daughter Aika in 1994.

According to VP Leni, “Jess loved writing us letters. Found these in Aika’s old album -letters which her Papa wrote to her in 1992, when she was just 4 years old. He was in Germany for an official trip at the time he wrote these letters.

The letter reads:

Dear Aika,

Papa called you up yesterday. But you were sleeping already. Mama decided not to wake you up. Papa will soon be home. After fourteen sleeps and stars, Papa will be in Manila. Today, the weather is cold, unlike yesterday when it was really hot. I had the chance to stroll at the park and they have a beautiful playground with slides and swings. You would have enjoyed it here.

Mama told me that you miss me. Papa also misses you and Mama. But this is part of Papa’s job as mayor. You will understand this as you grow older. Tell Mama what you want me to buy for you.

Please try to study well. Take good care of Mama. Do not spend your time crying.

Lots of love, Papa.

The letters were peppered with illustrations for Aika’s understanding and enjoyment.
