The 20-year-old rapper, whose legal name is Bashar Barakah Jackson, was found by the LAPD after receiving a call from the East Coast. It was reported to them that a group of people entered the home shortly before 5 am. At least one in the group was wearing a black mask and was in possession of a handgun.

Pop Smoke was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center but was pronounced dead.

“We are devastated by the unexpected and tragic loss of Pop Smoke,” a representative for Republic Records, where the rapper is signed, stated. “Our prayers and thoughts go out to his family, friends, and fans, as we mourn this loss together.”

Pop Smoke is best known for his singles Welcome to the Party and Dior. His first mixtape, Welcome to the Woo, was released last July while his second, Meet the Woo 2, only just came out this month. The latter debuted at No. 7 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart.
