Rain or Shine’s Yeng Guiao to Fine Players for Each Alaska Rebound in Game 6, Jokes “Pang-gasolina ko”

Yeng Guiao, Rain or Shine’s coach, tries to devise creative strategies to motivate the team as the Elasto Painters are set to have a do-or-die game today against the Alaska Aces. The Aces have dominated the Elasto Painters in terms of rebounding throughout the series. Coach Guiao aims to change this by setting a fine of 100 pesos for every rebound his team loses to the Aces on Game 6.

In the past five games, the Elasto Painters have an average of 46.4 rebounds, which is approximately 12 rebounds less than the Aces. The Elasto Painters have lost at least five offensive rebounds per game to its opponent.

Interaksyon.com quoted coach Guiao who jokingly said, “Pang-gasolina ko.”

Additionally:

“Fine lang yun para lang may conscious effort sila na rumebound. Kasi yun ang weakness namin na department, so I don’t know if it will help, I hope it will. It didn’t help in Game Five, but hindi naman siguro yan mangyayari ng biglaan,” said Guiao.

Rough translation: “It’s just  a fine for them to have a conscious effort to rebound. That is our weakness, so I don’t know if it will help, I hope it will. It didn’t help in game 5, but I guess it won’t happen in an instant,” said Guiao.

Coach Guiao mentioned that the players will have the freedom where the fines will be spent.

“Para sa team yung fine, they will combine it, tapos sila bahala saan nila gusto gastusin. Once the money is earned, consolidated, bahala sila kung saan nila gagastusin yun,” added Guiao.

“Rough translation: The fine is for the team, they will combine it. It will be their decision where it will be spent. Once the money is earned, consolidated, it’s up to them where they will spend it,” added Guiao.

The Aces are a win shy from winning the championship so coach Guiao hopes that this strategy will help the Elasto Painters.

On a serious note, coach Guiao sees that rebounding will play a major role if his team will win back-to-back games in order to be the Philippine Cup champion.

Game 6 will be held today at the MOA Arena.

The finals of the best-of-seven series, as needed, will be on January 7 or 9 at the Araneta Coliseum.
