The Quezon City Government just announced the lifting of its liquor ban this Friday, May 15.

The lifting is effective as of today. However, the sale of alcoholic drinks will be restricted from 1 pm to 5 pm daily.

Malacañang previously said that lifting of liquor bans would be the prerogative of Local Government Units (LGUs) as they were the ones to impose it in the first place.

“Well, ang liquor ban naman po ay nai-impose, kung hindi ako nagkakamali, ng mga iba’t ibang LGUs [The liquor ban is being imposed, if I’m not mistaken, by different LGUs],” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a virtual presser last April.

Hinahayaan lang po natin iyan na desisyunan ng ating mga lokal na mga mayor.” [We will allow the mayors to decide on this matter.]

The LGU has yet to release other details on the lifting of its liquor ban. This is a developing story.
