Filipino culture comes to life as tourism students from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Open University System present Salu-Salo: Hiyas, Handa, at Himig ng Pilipinas, a dynamic cultural tourism exposition happening on January 24, 2026, at the Claro M. Recto Hall. The event is open to PUP students and will also be livestreamed, allowing the wider PUP community to experience the celebration online.

Derived from the Filipino word for “gathering” or “feast,” Salu-Salo highlights three core elements of Filipino identity—Hiyas (beauty), Handa (cuisine), and Himig (music and performance). Organized by graduating Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management students, the expo serves as both a cultural celebration and a hands-on learning experience that transforms the venue into a lively Filipino fiesta, on-site and online.
The event will feature six regional booths representing Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, each designed to showcase distinct traditions, delicacies, and tourism highlights. PUP students attending in person can explore immersive displays, sample regional flavors, and engage in interactive storytelling, while online viewers can tune in to selected segments, performances, and program highlights through the livestream.
Adding excitement to the expo are friendly competitions that spotlight creativity and cultural pride. Bongga Ka, Booth! recognizes the most visually striking and culturally authentic booth, while Takatak Benta challenges teams to showcase their entrepreneurial skills through regional product sales. The stage comes alive with Pasik-LABAN!, a high-energy cultural performance competition, alongside Hiyas ng LuzViMinda, a cultural showcase celebrating heritage, confidence, and regional identity, all of which will be featured during the livestream.
Live performances, interactive exhibits, and festive décor will fill the venue throughout the day, offering PUP students both on-site and online an engaging and educational tourism experience. Beyond the celebration, Salu-Salo strengthens students’ professional competencies in event planning, hospitality, marketing, digital promotion, and teamwork—skills essential to future tourism and hospitality leaders.
By bringing together regional flavors, traditions, and performances in one space, and extending the experience through livestreaming, Salu-Salo: Hiyas, Handa, at Himig ng Pilipinas highlights the importance of cultural preservation and accessible experiential tourism. The expo invites the PUP community to rediscover the Philippines through the creativity and passion of the next generation of tourism professionals.
