RED HORSE BEER and PULP LIVE WORLD proudly announce the international band line-up of PULP SUMMER SLAM XV: ANGELS DESCEND, the 15th installment of Southeast Asia’s biggest and longest-running metal festival this April 25, 2015 at The Amoranto Stadium, Quezon City: KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, CRADLE OF FILTH, ESCAPE THE FATE, THE WORD ALIVE, CARCASS, CHTHONIC and SUFFOCATION.
PULP continues its tradition of bringing the most prominent and versatile mix of international metal bands to our shores. Headliners KILLSWITCH ENGAGE is widely considered as a forerunner of metalcore and one of the most prominent names in the New Wave of American Metal. They are returning to Manila after their successful first solo show held last July 13, 2013 at SM Skydome. CRADLE OF FILTH is an extreme metal band from England whose musical style has evolved from black metal to a cleaner anagram of gothic and symphonic metal lyrically influenced by gothic literature, classic poetry, mythology and horror films. Sure to pique the interest of kids who are slowly leaning towards heavy rock music are ESCAPE THE FATE and THE WORD ALIVE. The former is an American post-hardcore band ESCAPE THE FATE, who topped the Billboard Hard Rock charts in 2010 and has sold over a million records worldwide. Phoenix, Arizona-based metalcore band THE WORD ALIVE has constantly penetrated the Billboard charts with every release they have made.
CARCASS is one of the pioneers of brutal and extreme death metal, having formed in 1985. The group disbanded in 1996, reunited in 2007 as a touring band and surprised the metal world in 2013 with their last album Surgical Steel, which was selected as Album of the Year by several of the world’s most credible metal magazines and websites. CHTHONIC is a Taiwanese metal band that incorporates traditional Taiwanese instruments in their music. The band’s mission statement is to bring their ancient history and mythology into the modern era to address national issues they feel strongly about. SUFFOCATION is a New York-based death metal band credited as one of the bands who created the blueprint for death metal in the ‘90’s.
Completing this year’s line up is a roster of the best Filipino rock bands: GREYHOUNDZ, SLAPSHOCK, QUESO, KJWAN, WILABALIW, NOBELA, RAZORBACK and the Red Horse Beer People’s Choice Band. Greyhoundz, Slapshock and Queso are returning to The Slam for the first time in five years. The triumvirate has been regarded as the The Big 3 of Philippine metal music. Bannered by frontman Marc Abaya, Kjwan’s music is a hybrid of hard rock, alternative and funk rock. They are best known for hits such as “Lifeline,” “One Look” and “Daliri.” Making their Slam debut is Wilabaliw, which is comprised of Queso’s Ian Tayao on lead vocals, Greyhoundz’s Nino Avenido on bass, Louis Isok on guitar and Jesso Montejo on drums. Razorback is one of the most established and bad-ass bands in Pinoy hard rock history. Cagayan de Oro’s NOBELA is the 2015 Red Horse Pambansang Muziklaban Grand Champion. And in PULP Summer Slam’s tradition of bringing new promising acts in the forefront, Red Horse Beer is looking for a People’s Choice Band, where bands can vie for the opportunity to play at The Slam.
