I’ve been following Coheed and Cambria since they and that other band My Chemical Romance burst into the scene as emerging “indie rock” bands. And while My Chemical Romance devolved to the mainstream and eventually broke up, Coheed and Cambria remains fervent in their unique expression of musical storytelling, gaining more fans in the periphery as the years go by.

Claudio Sanchez and Coheed and Cambria unabashedly work various influences into their music. From acoustic to pop to punk to heavy metal, Coheed and Cambria weaves through these influences in every album, resulting in an emotive response from its listeners.

With titles like “The Willing Well III: Apollo II: The Telling Truth” and “Key Entity Extraction V: Sentry the Defiant”, the unacquainted might ask why such long, incoherent titles? You could think of Coheed and Cambria as a side project to Claudio Sanchez‘s comic series The Amory Wars. Coheed and Cambria are actually the protagonists of the story. And every track is a piece of the whole story.

Then again, you’re not here for the trivia (though it helps and adds to the drama of CoCa). You’re here to be convinced. So here’s the smoking gun.

DragonForce and Coheed and Cambria are two bands that can mount solo concerts and still rock fans would flock to see them. And yet they’re just two of the seven foreign bands who will be playing in this year’s PULP Summer Slam XIII. Add Cannibal Corpse, A Skylit Drive, Amoral, As I Lay Dying, and Circa Survive – bands from different sub-genres who have their own massive following, I’m sure – and we’re set for a rock festival for the ages!

PULP Summer Slam XIII is going down this April 27, 2013 at Amoranto Stadium, Quezon City. Gates open at 12 NN and I honestly don’t know if we’ll end on the 27th or 28th.
