The Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC), in cooperation with the UP College of Mass Communication, will hold the screening of two award-winning Alvin Yapan films on 4 and 5 October 2018, 5-7 p.m., at the UP Cine Adarna.  PSSC offers these two outstanding films in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

On 4 October (Thursday), 2012 Gawad Urian Best Picture and Cinemalaya Film Festival finalist Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa takes the screen. It is a coming-of-age film that revolves around a young man’s journey to realizing his gender identity.

Meanwhile, on 5 October (Friday), PSSC will showcase Debosyon, a film that explores the budding romance between a devotee of Peñafrancia and a forest deity. This film has received international acclaim, having been featured in popular film festivals abroad, such as those in Toronto and Los Angeles.

The films, which star Paulo Avelino, come a month after his triumphant portrayal of Goyo, a testament to his thespic talents past and present. Talented actors also appear on the films including Jean Garcia and Rocco Nacino in Sayaw and Mara Lopez in Debosyon.

Both movie screenings will include a short panel discussion that will feature the films’ writer and director, Prof. Yapan, together with film reviewers, Prof. Patrick F. Campos of the UP Film Institute and Prof. Joseph Santos E. Palis of the UP Department of Geography.

Tickets are available at P200 for professionals and P180 for students. They may be purchased in advance at the PSSC office or online (tiny.cc/PSSC50xAY) and are also available on the days of the film screening.
