On February 25 of this year, EDSA People Power Revolution will turn 30. The said event is a turning-point for the country and it was when a then president Ferdinand Marcos was ousted after 21 years of dictatorship and Corazon Aquino took on the role of president. It is expected that a massive celebration will be held in the vicinity of EDSA Shrine, which in turn can result to traffic jam along this highway.
The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) shared on their Facebook page alternate routes, counterflows, and zipper lanes along EDSA, the highway where the 1986 revolution was held, in preparation for the celebration.
It’s good news though that the 25th is declared a holiday. However, the road closures and rerouting will run not only for a day but for about two weeks, from February 14 to 29.
Last year, road closure along EDSA was just for a day and traffic was so bad that many “Traffic sa EDSA hugot lines and memes” went viral on social media.
According to MMDA’s Facebook page, here are the alternate routes, counterflows, and zipper lanes along EDSA:
ADVISORY: In line with the celebration of the 30th EDSA People Power Anniversary, The EDSA People Power Commission (EPPC) has announced that White Plains Ave. going to EDSA (WB) will be fully closed from Feb 14 to Feb 29, 2016 to give way to the construction, set up, operation, and dismantling of the EDSA Experiential Museum along White Plains Ave. There will be a zipper lane/counterflow on said street on the eastbound lane going to EDSA and a lane going to Temple Drive. Progressive closure of entire street (both east and westbound) will happen from Feb 23-24. On Feb 25, the entire street will be closed as well as EDSA Ortigas to EDSA Santolan. Alternate routes are the ff:
For White Plains Ave. – use Kamias Rd, Aurora Blvd, P Tuazon, Boni Serrano/Santolan, Ortigas, C5; we will allow thru traffic from White Plains to Temple Drive (no u-turn since White Plains is blocked)
For Feb 25: EDSA – use McKinley Rd/Kalayaan/Pioneer to C5, Roxas Blvd/Quirino/Osmena, Ayala, Buendia, R. Magsaysay Blvd., Quezon Ave. to go north
